MI-15â
Top Coat for MA-25â
MI-15 is a low density, room temperature curing, ablator/insulator which has been used extensively for thermal protection on aircraft and space launch vehicles. Primarily applied to MA-25, it improves wear resistance, eliminates permeation and minimizes handling damage. In aircraft engine applications, continuous use temperatures range between 300-600°F. Extensive fire testing has shown, when top coated with the MI-15 elastomeric topcoat, it can withstand 2000°F for 10 minutes. The MI-15 material has been certified for fireproof protection of fan thrust reversers per FAR Part 25.1181a and FAA Advisory Circular AC 20-135. The material is a filled elastomeric silicone. When MI-15 is used as a topcoat for MA-25S, it provides fluid proof protection and prevents potential undermining of the MA-25S. The MI-15 is unaffected by hydraulic oil and lube oil. The MI-15 top coat will protect the underlying MA-25 insulation for up to 30 days of exposure to:
